‘Put your money where your mouth is’

Thabo Nodada insists he still finds satisfaction in being at Cape Town City despite all the failed possibilities of moving that have been attached to his name throughout the years.

Nodada has for long being the subject of a possible move away from the club with Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns mentioned, just like Turkey was also once framed into the picture.

Yet he has remained with City and signed a new three-year contract earlier this year as he continues being the only survivor that was in the Mpumalanga Black Aces squad in their last season before being sold and subsequently relocated.

"I don't think the drive is to move, but I think the drive is to be a high-performance athlete and that's that," he responds to being asked about whether the drive to move is still alive as he nears his 30th birthday.

"I have no control over who wants my services, the only control that I have is what I do on the field.

"I have said it time and time again that the person who has always put his money where his mouth is, is my boss (John Comitis).

"So, it would be unfair of me to come here and speculate about people who haven't put their money where their mouths are.

"I'm at Cape Town City and that is where I'm a high performer and I look to play my best football there.

"I look to make history there.

"And look, you could say I didn't move and that's that, but how many people can say at the end of their careers they started their careers at one place, won their trophies at one place, and that place is outside of the top three?

"I need more trophies.

"I cannot sit on panels and discuss football with the league winners if I haven't won the league, so in terms of ambition, I still want to win stuff.

"I train to be the best and at this point in time, Cape Town City is where I'm at and I train there to be the best player," says Nodada.
