Spurs break silence on Mokeke

DStv Premiership strugglers Cape Town Spurs have revealed their plans for highly-rated defensive-midfielder Thato Mokeke.

According to rumors, Mokeke who was released by Spurs' biggest rivals Cape Town City recently, is looking for work at the Urban Warriors.

But Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou says they have no plans of signing the 33-year-old because he is currently still recovering from an injury.

Mokeke made only nine appearances in all competitions at City this season.

"Nothing is going on between the club and Mokeke, we invited him over so he could use our facilities to get himself back to full fitness," Efstathiou tells KickOff.

"He is currently nursing an injury, so there are no chances of him signing with the club this season.

"Remember he is our former player so we never forget our own, we take care of our own.

"It was us who invited him to come and keep fit because he is currently rehabilitating. We look after our old players here."

Spurs currently have Liam Burn, Morne Nel, Jarrod Moroole, and Michael Morton in the defensive midfield position.

Efstathiou says they were surprised to learn that the Premier Soccer League has decided to postpone all midweek matches.

"We were surprised yesterday when we got a letter saying the games are postponed.

"So now we will play again on Saturday I think. We were ready."

Spurs were meant to face Royal AM away, but will now resume their league campaign against AmaZulu FC on February 17 at Athlone Stadium.
