EXCLUSIVE: Cape Town Spurs striker puts in transfer request

KickOff.com can confirm that in-demand striker Ashley Cupido has placed a transfer request at Cape Town Spurs after a season in which the club got relegated from the DStv Premiership.

Cupido has been linked to Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United next season.

The 23-year-old striker has only managed to score six goals in 25 appearances in the topflight this season, having helped the side achieve their promotion goal at the end of the previous campaign.

The towering marksman also has an assist next to his name.

With the Urban Warriors already confined to Motsepe Foundation Championship football next season, following a horror elite division campaign where they have collected a mere 20 points from 29 games, Cupido is keen to remain in the topflight in 2024/25.

"Yes, I have made it clear to the club that I would like to move at the end of the season," Cupido tells KickOff in an exclusive interview.

"My goal next season is to play in the PSL again.

"Wherever I play next season, I just want to score as many (goals) as I can and enjoy football," he added.

The Ernst Middendorp-led team is expected to lose several players after their drop back to the second tier.

Striker Boitumelo Radiopane has been recalled back to Orlando Pirates next season.

Cupido could now join him in Gauteng for pre-season.

"Yes, I would love to play for one of the Big Three (teams). It would be a dream come true and a wonderful experience for me," Cupido stated.
