In the latest edition of "My Locker Room Secrets," former Premier Soccer League top striker Coxwell "Magic" Ratshivhadelo tells a story of how Black Leopards' muti made Ajax Cape Town's captain, Edelbert Dinha, collapse during a match.
Ratshivhadelo is one of the most dangerous and hard-to-defend-against strikers to have ever played in the PSL.
Whose locker room are we in today?
"We're in the locker room of the former Black Leopards gigantic number nine, Coxwell Ratshivadhelo."
"In our first season in the PSL, Gavin Hunt was our coach. He always wanted us to sing in Venda; that was his way of learning the language.
"Only Sibusiso Dlamini came from a different place; the rest of us were from Venda and Gauteng.
"In Venda, we loved playing mind games. We would deliberately start smoke in our opponents' change room. We would close all the cold water taps and only leave the hot one running.
"You wouldn't dare question Bra Dave (Leopards chairman David Thidiela) about his muti, so everyone took part.
"Only three people in the team were allowed to carry the Leopards muti. That was me, Mulondo Sikhwivhilu, and Christopher Netshidzhive.
"When it was time to get into our kit, the three of us would leave the dressing room and go and change in a separate place."
Who was always late?
"Thokozani Mnguni. That guy was stout (naughty). On match days, he didn't travel with the rest of the team; he'd follow the team bus in his car. Bra Dave loved him; he wouldn't say anything.
"Each time we traveled to play a match in Gauteng, come match day, Thokozani Mnguni would be nowhere to be found.
"He was a player from Gauteng, he earned more than all of us, so he couldn't be fired."
Any interesting rituals before they played?
"Only Mulondo Sikhwivhilu, Netshidzivhe, and I. We used to change outside the dressing room to make sure our teams didn't see our muti."Who was the jokester?
"Our left-back, Oupa Mabuye. I think he was from Vosloorus. He was Sotho, so he would use any Venda word that came to his mind just to gel with the Venda-speaking guys. Thokozani Mnguni was also a character. Bernard Gama; he was also fun."
Was it a muti change room?
"The chairman was a pastor; he owned a church. So we prayed but at the same time used muti. The way our muti was so strong, against Ajax Cape Town, their captain Edelbert Dinha fainted during a game because of the strong muti that we used that day."
Who was the singer?
"Mulondo Sikhwivhilu. He started almost all our songs. I also sang on some occasions, although I was shy."
Who was the best dressed and the worst dressed?
"Thokozani Mnguni. His shirts were always tucked in. Remember, his brother (Themba Mnguni) used to play for Sundowns, so he would give him genuine Nike boots for free, while some of us wore imitation or plastic boots.
"Richard Lishivha was the worst dressed; he once played for Kaizer Chiefs. You could tell from a distance he was a villager. He looked lost. But these days, he's got a good job at the Tshwane Traffic Department."
Rate the coach's team talk
"Gavin Hunt. He used to tell us to communicate only in Tshivenda during the set plays (laughs)."
