Spurs provide update on Dortley's future

Cape Town Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou has commented on Rushwin Dortley's future with the club.

Spurs are expected to part ways with a few of their star players ahead of the new season following their relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Efstathiou has confirmed the full-back has attracted a lot of interest after his performances during the 2023/24 campaign, but did not mention which teams were keen.

The 22-year-old was in action for Bafana Bafana at the COSAFA Cup and he found the back of the net during the 1-1 draw with neighbours Mozambique an the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday.

Efstathiou says the performance the defender gave in the COSAFA Cup opener was always expected from a quality player.

"There's a lot of interest in the player, we will see what happens," the Spurs CEO tells KickOff.

"I will never disclose which teams are interested, but Kaizer Chiefs ja they were interested about two years ago, I'm not sure what happened.

"I don't want to say they've rekindled their interest in the player or not. I have watched the player week in and week out so I know what he can do.

"He's also a very good character off the field, so he's got everything going for him. He is not a risky investment.

"If we get the right offer he will be allowed to go, but he won't come cheap. We not gonna release players for the sake of it."

Efstathiou says whoever is going to put forward the biggest offer will get Dortley.

"Yeah, it will probably come to the bidding between, otherwise he will stay here and help us get promoted."
