'Nothing will discourage me' - Khune breaks silence following Chiefs suspension

Ahead of the Carling Black Label Cup Final between All Stars and Stellenbosch, goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has spoken for the first time since his suspension from club action by Kaizer Chiefs.

Chiefs announced in December that the club had decided the experienced shot-stopper would be 'temporarily separated' from the team following an internal investigation.

This came after multiple reports surfaced allegedly that Khune had been guilty of a number of transgressions at the Naturena-based club, including reporting for training under the influence of alcohol.

The 36-year-old received more votes than any other player for the PSL All Stars team that will face Carling Knockout winners Stellenbosch and Chiefs issued a statement barring the veteran shot stopper from participating due to his suspension.

However, that statement has since been deleted from the Chiefs website and Khune is now inline to start when All Stars meet Stellenbosch on Saturday.

Ahead of the match, Khune has spoke to media for the first time since his suspension.

"I'm doing well, I think everyone has seen that that I've been keeping fit," Khune told journalists on Thursday.

"I've been training very hard because as a 24-hour pro (professional footballer) you can't relax at any give time. You never know where your destiny.

"When they (Carling) opened the polls for the fans to start voting and I saw my name there, I told myself that in whatever that I am going through, it's a blessing in disguise. I just had to stay ready for anything that comes my way.

"I'm happy that I have managed to carry that through over the years, that I will have that never-say-die spirit and nothing will discourage me, but I'm happy that I've been keeping fit and I'm happy that to be here."
