BLOCKBUSTER | '2-1, 1-0, but Chiefs might take it'

Johannes 'Bricks' Mudau knows all too well about the weight of expectation for the Carling Knockout match between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns having played for both sides, and makes a bold prediction about who will progress to the semi-finals.

Chiefs host Sundowns at FNB Stadium in what has already been confirmed to be a sold-out affair.

Mudau, who played nine years at The Brazilians before exchanging their jersey for the Gold and Black one in 1992, where he spent three years, has backed the home side to do the business.

"There is no therefore in football and there is no formula," explains the former centre-back, speaking to KickOff.com.

"Kaizer Chiefs have not been performing well for the past few years, it's only this season I see a different team. So, I think they are more determined to win tomorrow's game even though Sundowns are still a formidable team.

"It's going to be a tight game with a margin of 2-1, 1-0, but Chiefs might take it. They are a rejuvenated team. They are showing that will to win. Their team has changed completely. It's a new team.

"I'm impressed with one or two youngsters there at Chiefs. They're making their mark and their presence is seen. I believe Chiefs will have an edge, but a very slim one.

'Player for player, Sundowns have an opportunity to get whatever they want, and the Chiefs coach [Nasreddine Nabi] is new in the South African game, so he has to adjust, although they are a different team to what they were a few years back," he adds.

Mudau believes in comparison to recent squads at Naturena, the current squad has the better quality of players and they will be competitive in the upcoming fixture.

"The squad was full of mediocre players. Players were at the wrong place, I feel. So, this time they might win against Sundowns. In their recent games, you could see their defence is well-organised than some years ago. They are a good team all around now, Chiefs.

"It's just that the coach is new, so he needs time for him to win some silverware, whereas Sundowns have been on form for years now. You can pinpoint their weakness.

"They have a very good team, and this Brazilian, [Lucas] Ribeiro [Costa], makes things happen. He scores goals from unexpected places. We will see how Chiefs counter that."
