R400k Chipezeze speaks: I told them sizoy'faka ugesi!

Goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze, who collected a fourth Man of the Match award in the Carling Knockout Final win against Mamelodi Sundowns, has opened up on his standout performance that took his prize-money tally to R400 000.

Dikwena tša Meetse made history when they became the first club to win the Carling Knockout in their first seasons of top-flight football, defeating Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1. The match was played at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Chipezeze was called into action early in the first half on several occasions and the Zimbabwean international made multiple saves to keep the score level, until Iqraam Rayners finally broke the deadlock with just 15 minutes to play in the first half.

Magesi struck back in the second half through Tshepo Kakora and Delano Abrahams and Chipezeze once again made several saves to keep The Brazilians at bay until the final whistle.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper was voted by fans as the Man of the Match for the fourth consecutive Carling Knockout match - an award that comes with a R100 000 cheque for each match.

Speaking to SuperSportTV on the award, the shotstopper dedicated his award to supporters.

"The key is the support. We are the new babies of the league and I said it, I remember at the [Carling Knockout] launch, I said some words, I told them that sizoy'faka ugesi, siyifake u gesi now (Carling Knockout slogan)," Chipezeze said.

"I'm just grateful to the fans for believing in me, these people use their hard-earned money to come watch us play and at the end of the day, we have to return the favour, like producing performances like this.

"What makes me happy the most is as long as the fans are smiling, I'm happy, personal accolades might come but I have to make sure that the fans are happy all the time.
