Eymael: I was Chippa's first choice

Luc Eymael has exclusively revealed to KickOff why negotiations with Chippa United collapsed at the last minute.

The Chilli Boys recently announced Thabo September and Kwanele Kopo as co-coaches, Eymael says the PSL made contact with him in December.

"I've been approached by Chippa but with did not agree on the offer. It was less than what it was two years ago, and we must not forget that the rand is low," Eymael tells KickOff.

"Unfortunately now R1000 equals 49 Euros. Two or three years ago R1000 equalled 60 or 62 Euros.

"The chairman contacted me on 30 and 31 December, to ask if I'm free and if I'm interested in coming back. I said 'yes, why not?' Then on the 30th, he said, 'I have another option for that amount (another coach). So are you accepting or not?' I said no. Then on the 31st, he came back to me saying, 'fine, I'm giving you that amount'. Then he said, but there would be no bonuses for winning games, eish!

"I said to him, chairman, with all respect, let me forward you the offer you gave me two years ago. There were bonuses and incentives. I still had his offer... He did not respond, then on 2nd of January he told me he had another option. And we all saw who he signed," added the coach.

"When you discuss with someone you need to have a dialogue, not just giving orders. Although I think I was very polite and very open to discussion, there is a minimum of understanding to be had towards each other. This is my opinion. I explained the current situation of the value of the rand, I think I showed I was making a big effort. But okay it is life, good luck to them."
