JUST IN: Pirates star and ex-Chiefs man lead mass exits at Chippa

Luvuyo Memela and Kamohelo Mahlatsi are among 18 players confirmed to be leaving Gqeberha-based outfit Chippa United, while Goodman Mosele returns to Orlando Pirates.

In a somewhat surprise move, the club revealed 16 players whose contracts are coming to an end at the end of June will be allowed to pursue other avenues.

Among them is veteran campaigner Andile Mbenyane, who is expected to announce his retirement from the game having been with the club from inception and playing under more than 30 coaches at the Chilli Boys, as recently revealed by this publication.

Another veteran on the list is former Buccaneer Luvuyo Memela, who, at 36, might be considering his future in the game despite his huge talent.

"We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the above players for their dedication and contributions to the club. You have all brought pride to the Eastern Cape, and we wish you the very best in your future endeavours," added the club.

"This announcement comes with the promise of exciting new signings that will be unveiled in due course. Fans can also look forward to seeing new faces from the Eastern Cape as we continue to build a strong and competitive team for the coming season. Thank you for your continued support."
