Mammila: 'I'm not thinking about being sacked'

Newly-appointed Chippa United head coach Morgan Mammila boldly insists that he is not afraid of the sack after returning to the club on a three-year deal.

The former Swallows FC technical advisor revealed there was no hesitation in returning to the Chilli Boys owned by the trigger-happy Chippa Mpengesi.

"Coaching is for winners, if you are not a winner, leave coaching," Mammila tells KickOff.

"I've got a three-year contract at Chippa. But not being in the top eight next season would be a failure.

"I'm not the kind of person who is looking for job security. I trust the process, and I trust what I'm doing.

"I am not even thinking about being sacked because there is always a first time.

"I am looking forward to starting and finishing the season at Chippa, you can't fire someone who is doing well.

"My plan is to do well so the chairman won't fire me. But I know in football, so anything can happen.

"It happens at Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, so will also at Chippa.

"Chippa United is the team that helped me break through into the coaching profession.

"I want to take this opportunity to thank again my best friend, Chippa Mpengesi, for giving me the opportunity once again.

"The past season, I've learned a lot from being part and parcel of the team that reached the top eight with limited resources.

"I want to stay in that bracket of being a top eight coach and even play in the CAF Confederations Cup like the likes of Marumo Gallants.

"Since I left this team, they haven't won a match at home, I'm back here to improve that.

"Mpengesi just asked me to come and look after his status. He wants me to keep his team in the PSL next season.

"It's not by fluke that Swallows are in the top eight, there were brilliant football minds in that technical team.

"God does not use one formula for all of us, I don't need to be an assistant coach for five, six, fifteen years. Two months is enough."
