Mammila: We gave Sundowns two easy goals

Chippa United head coach Morgan Mammila says his side gave Mamelodi Sundowns "easy goals they did not deserve" after their defeat on Tuesday.

The Chilli Boys were behind as early as the 14th minute after Teboho Mokoena executed Aubrey Modiba's free-kick with a header and Peter Shalulile doubled Sundowns' lead off the bench with another headed goal in the second stanza.

Thabiso Lebitso reduced the deficit for Chippa in stoppage time but the Brazilians managed to hold on to their tenth consecutive win.

"To be honest my boys came to play football and I told them, I don't know what is parking the bus and I'm not going to learn it now," Mammila told SuperSport TV.

"We came here to play football and that's what we do. I thought we gave them two easy goals that they did not deserve, they did not work hard for those goals.

"And we should have scored one, where I don't know how many passes there in the box because we're a team that can pass. Yes and of course there were fouls that we were not getting them," he said.

The former Baroka CEO also said that the referees on the day were not up to standard.

"But I'm not the man to complain about referees, they had a bad day in the office today, tomorrow it will be me getting those kind of favours," he said.

Chippa sprung to life late in the game following the introduction of attackers, Ronaldo Maarman and Siphelele Luthuli.

And it was suggested to Mammila that perhaps he should have started with Maarman, who gave the Brazilians problems after coming on.

"No, the thing is we had to come and stop the Sundowns train first and once you stop the Sundowns train first, then you can start playing," Mammila responded.

"Maarman is not a player who can come deeper and mark, we play players according to their strong points, we brought him in at the right time, he came in and did very well.

"And that's why sometimes substitutes or reserve players are the match winners and we nearly won the match today because of him," he added.
