A slick 5-a-side pitch has been unlocked in one of Cape Town's townships by legendary African star, Samuel Eto'o. Here's a glimpse of the quality facility in Strand.
Five-a-side football is very popular, and in South Africa, it is commonly or colloquially known as 'Street Game' or 'Street Football' even though it is played on astroturf. As its name suggests, five players on each side, with one player in goal and four outfield players.

These pitches a great environment for youth, non-professional footballers, and any other members of the community. There are no formalized rules to 5-a-side football, whether it's in an indoor or outdoor setting, there are just general rules that serve as a guide.
Eto'o's Legacy Pitch will be the perfect venue to host community tournaments for all ages, and the facility is also equipped with perfect lighting around the two five-a-side pitches, therefore, matches can also be played in the evening.
The organizers and brains behind the project revealed that there are plans in the future, to add two more pitches to the site, and an indoor action cricket facility.
The initiative is said to be beneficial to the growth of football in the Mother City, a place that has earthed some of South Africa's best talents including Benni McCarthy, Steven Pienaar, Abbubaker Mobara, Ayanda Patosi, as well as the late Cecil Lolo and Anele Ngcongca
A player who grew up in Strand specifically is Maritzburg United's Alfred Ndengane, who played for a local amateur side called Rapela FC.
