What happened?
The 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations kicked off in Cameroon's capital, Yaounde on Sunday with thousands of fans enjoying a tremendous and exciting opening ceremony.
There were fireworks, traditional attire and an eccentric performance by Congolese singer Fally Ipupa to make for an eventful opening to the tournament that many tried to stop from taking place, including the European club association.
The ceremony took place in the newly inaugurated Olembe Stadium, which had at least 40 000 fans in attendance and hundreds of dancers exhibiting Cameroon's passion for the arts.

"We must send a message because we want to work with Europe, we want to work together with football.
"We want to develop football in Africa but we also want to send a message to the 54 countries that CAF can host a successful tournament. It's gonna be the best that's ever taken place."
