Mathebula, who recently joined Tshakhuma FC as their DStv Diski Challenge coach, has embarked on a journey around Limpopo scouting for young players for GladAfrica Championship and DStv Premiership teams.
'DVD' has joined forces with his business partner Nimrod Mbhalati to set up trials at professional clubs for the top talent in Limpopo.
"I always receive calls from people wanting me to set up trials for players in both the NFD and PSL. I realised that I couldn't do it individually but as a group [it's now possible]," Mathebula tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"That's why we are holding trials around Limpopo to select a team that can go play friendly matches against both NFD and PSL clubs."

GK - Itumeleng Khune - The best by far, best distributor in the world for me. You don't play for Kaizer Chiefs and the national team for such a long period if you are not quality.

RB - Gerald Mtshali - I never saw a winger troubling this guy at Dynamos, one of the cleanest defenders and good on the ball going forward.

LB - Joseph Henyekane - I played with him at Aces. Solid in defence and very good crosser of the ball. He could have played for Bafana Bafana. May his soul rest in peace.

CB - Fabian McCarthy - Good reader of the game, good communicator, leader and good passer of the ball. Difficult to beat one-on-one.

CB - Thabo September - Another intelligent defender with good technical ability. With him and Fabian you are guaranteed fewer fouls at the back and good build-up to attack.

CM - Gerald Sibeko - Quality passes long and short. 'Tso' gave everything for the team. I enjoyed partnering him in midfield. We believed in putting the ball down and playing.

CM - Kurt Lentjies - Excellent attacking midfielder. He doesn't lose possession easily. Wished I played more games with him at SuperSport. True professional.

CM - Gert Schalkwyk - He knew when to make forward runs and he could see space between the defence. One of the best passers and finishers. I enjoyed playing with him.

RW - Junior Khanye - He was blessed with talent. One vs one was nothing to him. He was arrogant and it was good. He was always the winner when we took penalties. 'Aghahowa'.

LW - Saul Mmethi - Had everything for a winger. Skill, speed, eye for goal. Always positive, the people of Giyani enjoyed watching 'Chippa'. He was unfortunate with injuries.

CF - Jeremy Brockie - The best finisher with good technique both left and right. Give a good pass in and around the box, you will see his best.
Mbhalati says their project is coming on well despite the challenges of Covid-19 in achieving some of their objectives.
"David Mathebula remains a true gentleman of the game and a great role model. He defied all odds to achieve his dream of playing professional football," says Mbhalati.
"His intention now is opening opportunities for the youngsters in Limpopo to realise their dreams in football. So far everything is coming well and we have managed to select a team.
"We are currently talking to a few teams in the NFD with a hope to play friendly games and allow the players to get exposure.
"We are grateful to a company like Hollywoodbets for supporting us.We still need more support because there are a lot of expenses in running this project."
