How the PSL's top names celebrated Heritage Day

It was a celebratory atmosphere in Mzansi this weekend as Saturday not only marked the celebration of the many diverse cultures but it also saw Bafana Bafana claim an uncharacteristic 4-0 win. Here's a look at some the the weekend's best moments!

The Story

Perhaps, one of the most colourful days in the South African calendar, the 24th of September is a special celebration of tradition and the many things that define people's identities.

Heritage Day is indeed a glorious occasion as the heavily-criticised national team ran riot in their international friendly against Sierra Leone at the FNB stadium.

While the attendance of fans was undeniably poor, with the stands looking awfully empty, the victory brought some excitement to many. Orlando Pirates striker Zakhele Lepasa was one of the standout performers alongside returnee Themba Zwane and debutant Mihlali Mayambela.

Although the Bucs marksman couldn't get on the scoresheet, he did manage to lay an assist for Mayambela in what was an undeniably good performance. After the match, Lepasa took to the stands for some warm hugs from his family in what will be a moment that lasts forever in his memory.

His teammate Fortune Makringe, meanwhile, was in the mix of things in a beautiful Xitsonga celebration. As expected of them, The Royal AM family were jaunty as usual, with owner Shauwn Mkhize and Royal AM Ladies vice-chairperson Tamia Mpisane delightfully beautiful in their eye-catching Zulu attire.

Did you know?

Before 1995, the 24th of September was considered as Shaka Day in commemoration of the Zulu King, Shaka - it was later made an official public holiday after some serious lobbying by the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), per National Today.
