Mashego, who hung up his boots in June last year, is back on the scene with his Katlego Mashego Football Legacy as he looks to give back to children in need for Christmas.
The 37-year-old, who also turned out for clubs such as Platinum Stars, SuperSport United, Golden Arrows, Moroka Swallows and Chippa United during a largely successful career, will be in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga on Wednesday to bring joy to hospitalised kids.
The ocassion is particularly special for Mashego, who once spent Christmas in the same Mapulaneng Hospital as a child, and wants to ensure others still get to be cheerful and celebrate the occasion despite their various health challenges.
'Mahoota' also provided an update on what has been keeping him busy and explained why he has been absent from football circles.
"I'm jugglng my stuff between my schooling and business – I went into business with a couple of people, so I'm busy with that, and I'm studying towards my LLB [law degree]," he tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"That's pretty much it, but I did say when I retire I want to take a couple of years away from the game, and if I miss it and feel like I want to be involved again then I'll definitely come back to football.
"But for now, I'm just busy with my studies and business, and trying to help where I can. I'm giving back and helping others, and I'll be doing my charity drive at the hospital again."
The former Bafana Bafana striker regularly spends his Christmas with the kids, rather than doing tha traditional celebration with family and friends.
