Kosta Papic opening academy in SA with Lucky Lekgwathi

Papic has teamed up with former players he coached such as Lucky Lekgwathi to set up a football academy that will be based in Gauteng.

According to the Serbian tactician, the project was supposed to start this month.

"I'm busy with that but you know the situation with the corona," Papic tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"And this time it's going to be very difficult to put that project into reality because the parents and the academies, it's not working the way I'm expecting it's going to be.

"The plan is a different kind of academy than what the other people have got now. But because of the Covid parents don't have any money. The schools are not open in the proper way. All those factors have actually put on hold that project.

"But I'm planning to open it together with my former players. We will have an academy that will combine with some kind of special training for the kids who are more talented than others you know.

"But like I said it's very difficult because all the academies that are already there are not operating, they are still on hold. Definitely Covid is the main factor. Parents can't pay now at this moment.

"I'm looking for sponsors who will be able to participate in that to be able to pay the grounds, to pay the coaches, to pay the physios and everything necessary, masks, sanitisers...

"We will be looking for boys from age 14 to 19, but at a later stage we will introduce girls also. We will need a special coach for the girls you know. I'm planning actually to open this month of November."

The last coaching job the Serbian had on the continent of Africa was with the Eswatini national team last year.

'Bill Clinton' says he is aware of everything that is happening in the DStv Premiership but admits it has not been easy to find a new job.

"To be honest with you, in this moment it is very difficult to find a club. First of all the Covid is killing the proper structure with every club, they relocate it... it has never happened like that before if I'm correct," he adds.

"When this dust comes down we will see what will happen in the PSL. We will see later on after five matches what is going to happen in the country."
