Referee Victor Hlungwani assisting PSL security staff with Covid-19 food donations

PSL security personnel have not received any income since Absa Premiership and GladAfrica Championship matches were postponed in March.

Some security personnel only rely on football to support their families and put food on the table, but are set to receive some relief in the form of food parcels to the value of R500 each.

"We tried to fundraise and put together something. We are going to give them food parcels to the value of R500 each," Hlungwani tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"I am with a group of fans called Phushi Passion, it's a group of supporters in the working class who have contributed together with Limpopo Sports Wise, which is a NGO where I am the chairperson.

"Remember, when the government released the relief fund they were not covered. That's why we took the initiative after seeing in a publication with one of them saying 'with no football I am nothing, I don't have food for my kids'.

"It really touched some of us and I tried to find a way how we can assist them. That's why we came with the initiative with Phushi Passion and started making contributions.

"Now it's time to give them hope that we do care about them and understand their situation due to Covid-19. We are here to assist and lend a hand."

Several football personalities have made contributions to communities during this difficult time including Mark Mayambela, Ayanda Patosi, Lucky Lekgwathi, Thabo September, Jabulani Mendu, Siyabonga Mbatha and Aubrey Modiba.
