Sundowns climb to second spot, Chiefs drop points

Kaizer Chiefs 0-0 Stellenbosch FC

Kaizer Chiefs remained on top of the DStv Diski Challenge table despite playing to a hard-fought goalless draw against Stellenbosch FC at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.

The Amakhosi are though just a point ahead of second-place Mamelodi Sundowns who overcame AmaZulu in the day's other action.

As for the defending champions, this outcome at the might of the Amakhosi see them go up to third-place ahead of rivals Cape Town City who were thumped 3-0 by Richards Bay FC on Saturday.

AmaZulu 0-1 Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns moved into second spot on the table following a 1-0 victory over AmaZulu in a keenly contested top-three encounter.

Both teams have been on a good run recently in particular Usuthu under new coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi, with Masandawana keen to set their intentions for a second title very early.

Some moment of brilliance near the end of the first half by Khumo Mokoele did the business for the Brazilians and secured the maximum points in the end.

Polokwane City 3-1 Golden Arrows

Polokwane City registered their first win of the season against a fellow winless outfit in Golden Arrows after storming to a 3-1 victory.

The Rise and Shine have had a difficult start to the campaign as did Abafana Besthende who have to date collected just one point.

Orlando Pirates 0-0 Magesi FC

Orlando Pirates were unable to get back on the winning track after playing to a goalless draw with the newly-promoted Magesi FC on Saturday.

The Buccaneers suffered a heavy 3-0 drubbing at the hands of TS Galaxy last weekend, but looked to bounce back instantly though the newbies proved a difficult customer and settled for a point.

Pirates are now seventh on the table after this result, with the men from the Limpopo province three places behind their Soweto counterparts.

Sekhukhune United 5-1 Chippa United

Sekhukhune United continued the winning run of form and scoring turnover after hammering Chippa United 5-1 at Sturrock Park in Braamfontein.

Kearabilwe Mphahlele struck four times with two goals in either half before Njabulo Mndebele joined in on the party to punch further holes in the Chilli Boys stall.

In addition, this is another heavy defeat for the men from Gqeberha who got trounced 4-1 by the reigning champions Stellenbosch FC last weekend.

Richards Bay FC 3-0 Cape Town City

Richards Bay FC put the brakes on Cape Town City's fine start to the campaign to get theirs on the up with a comprehensive 3-0 pasting.

It's a maiden loss of the campaign for the Citizens, while it's a second straight victory for the Natal Rich Boys after seeing off Marumo Gallants FC last weekend.

A brace from Sithembiso Makhaye and another strike by Wandile Ngema were enough to get the host over the line and to maximum points in the end.

Marumo Gallants FC 2-2 TS Galaxy

Marumo Gallants FC collected their first point of the season through a thrilling 2-2 draw with TS Galaxy in a bottom-half tussle.

The Maroons came into the game on a string of defeats, whilst the Rockets just secured their first win of the campaign last weekend against the mighty Orlando Pirates.
