Sundowns run riot over Gallants

Mamelodi Sundowns 4-1 Marumo Gallants

Mamelodi Sundowns cemented top spot in DStv Diski Challenge after thrashing Marumo Gallants 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.

After thrashing Richards Bay 3-0 last week, the influential Siyabonga Mabena opened the scoring for the Brazilians six minutes before the halftime break.

Ntando Nkosi doubled the advantage shortly after the break, before  Thulani Zandamela contributed with a brace to take his tally to four goals in two games.

Thapelo Mokobodi bagged a consolation for Gallants with three minutes remaining.

Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 Chippa United

Kaizer Chiefs maintained their winning start to the DStv Diski Challenge season with a come-from-behind win over Chippa United on Sunday.

Dillon Sheppard's men started the season with a win over Golden Arrows last weekend, while the Chilli Boys registered a 2-0 win over Marumo Gallants.

It was the away side who got the breakthrough at the midway point of the first half when Luzuko Ngqina managed to fire past Takalani Mazhamba.

It was left to the substitutes to bail Chiefs out, as  Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi restored parity in the 62nd minute before Pheko Phago got the winning goal with 15 minutes remaining.

Stellenbosch FC 2-1 Richards Bay

Reigning champions Stellenbosch FC defeated Richards Bay 2-1 to record their first win of the season.

Faiz Abrahams and Quwan Plaatjies were both on target in the first half to give the Winelands outfit the win.

Orlando Pirates 2-2 Cape Town City

Orlando Pirates remained winless in the new DStv Diski Challenge season after a thrilling 2-2 draw against Cape Town City on Saturday.

The Soweto giants trailed the men from the Western Cape province earlier on when Shakeel April leaped onto a long ball in the channels minutes past kick-off and finished with ease.

Pirates, who drew blanks last week in the season-opener against AmaZulu, got back on level terms minutes later through a calm finish by Mbekezeli Mbokazi.

With matters off to a flyer, the goals kept coming soon thereafter when Siphamandoa Msezana profited from good forward play and fired in comfortably.

As the Citizens trailed at halftime, Pirates were unable to hold ground and surrendered ascendancy when April riffled in following poor defending and left the spoils shared.

Magesi FC 0-0 AmaZulu

Magesi FC continued to battle away and stuttered to yet another goalless draw against AmaZulu on their own turf.

In the debut campaign, the new boys were able to hold their own last week against the defending champions Stellenbosch FC in their-season opener.

Usuthu also are yet to win after getting the campaign off the mark with a goalless contest at home to Soweto giants Orlando Pirates last weekend – thus collected another score-less outcome.

TS Galaxy 1-1 SuperSport United

SuperSport United picked up their second point of the campaign courtesy of a come-from-behind 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy.

It was a strong start for the home team a little to ten minutes played where a certain Regomoditswe Modikoe pounced right around the attacking area and dispatched with ease.

Matsatsantsa bounced back five minutes in the second half and saw Shamir Mattera apply a smart finish to give the Tshwane charges their maiden goal of the season.

SuperSport had the chance to go in front for the first time in the match through a spot-kick following a foul in the area, but Mpho Selowa unfortunately hit the subsequent effort against the woodwork.

With the match relatively even and neither team able to hit the net, the clash concluded level giving each team a point apiece.
