Chiefs denied top spot in Diski Challenge

Richards Bay FC 2-2 Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs lost their grip on top spot in the DStv Diski Challenge after a 2-2 draw against Richards Bay FC on Sunday.

The Amakhosi were on the back-foot in the opening quarter and a foul on Ntlonelo Bomelo saw the host receive a penalty which the former tucked in comfortably.

Chiefs hit back a little to five minutes beyond halftime with Neo Bohloko grabbing the initiative courtesy of a marvellous finish.

However, the Natal Rich Boys were in the lead once more when Thando Mngomezulu produced sublime footwork in possession before rattling the back of the net.

Chiefs did manage to salvage something from the contest though as Matala Makhubo rattled the net in the closing stages and all square it finished.

AmaZulu 1-3 SuperSport United

Forward Thabang Mahlangu stole the show and scored three times to help SuperSport United record a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over AmaZulu.

The home team grabbed the first initiative when a foul on Tebogo Mashigo led to the awarding of a penalty and the self-same player did the honours from the spot.

Matsatsantsa hit back through the same variation where an indiscretion in the box resulted in a spot kick and star player Thabang Mahlangu had no problems finding the net.

The day belonged to one player as Mahlangu continued to write the headlines following the interval and bagged the net to complete his hat-trick.

Sekhukhune United 2-2 Marumo Gallants FC

Sekhukhune United's two-match winless run came to an end after a 2-2 draw with the struggling Marumo Gallants FC.

The in-form Kearabilwe Mphahlele continued the rich vein of form in front of goal with the breakthrough in the opening couple of minutes.

Babina Noko enjoyed the lead at the interval and in fact added a second right thereafter through Samkele Sihlali, but the Free State outfit hit back to salvage point.

Cape Town City 5-2 Polokwane City

Cape Town City overcame last weekend's disappointing loss and thumped Polokwane 5-2 to remain in touching distance with the pace-setters.

The Citizens were first on strike through Jody Ah Shene, but Rise and Shine hit back only for the host to bounce back and take complete control.

Another strike from Ah Shene were complemented by Cee-Jay Bezuidenhout, Shakeel April, Unam Rhode and put daylight between the two protagonists.

Golden Arrows 0-1 Orlando Pirates

Soweto heavyweights Orlando Pirates bounced back from a two-match winless run in the DStv Diski Challenge and edged Golden Arrows 1-0 on Saturday.

The victory propelled the Buccaneers to leap significantly up the standings, while for Arrows it's yet another loss and remain without win from six matches played so far.

A penalty in the second half from Sphamandla Msezane was enough to see the Buccaneers grab the full haul of points and return to winning ways.

Stellenbosch FC 5-1 TS Galaxy

Stellenbosch FC continued their perfect start to the campaign and thumped a struggling TS Galaxy 5-1 to jump to the top of the table, with a hat-trick from Langelihle Phili.

Quwan Plaatjies made the opening before Phili who was a second half substitute in the MTN8 final defeat to Pirates last weekend, doubled the lead.

The Rockets got one back just after the half-hour mark when Seluleko Mahlambi pounced to leave the home side in all forms of discomfort.

Stellies continued to enjoy dominance with Phili bagging a double to secure a hat-trick before substitute Keanan Johannesen joined the party and utterly dismantled the Rockets.

Magesi FC 2-2 Chippa United

New boys Magesi FC and Chippa United were unable to separate themselves and shared the spoils in a thrilling 2-2 draw in Polokwane.

Both teams have had a seemingly tough start this season, with just a single win recorded to date and hover just around the mid to bottom-half positions on the table.
