DStv Diski Challenge Wrap

Neither Orlando Pirates nor Kaizer Chiefs managed to bag the Soweto derby bragging rights after playing to a goalless draw in the DStv Diski Challenge at the Wits Football Stadium.

Pirates were smarting from a disappointing loss to Maritzburg United on the road, while the Amakhosi edged Mamelodi Sundowns in a seven-goal thriller last Sunday.

SuperSport United came from a goal during the course of the first half to go on and see off Sekhukhune United 3-2 in Braamfontein.

Babina Noko were first on the front foot courtesy of Sozabile Dlamini, but Thapelo Maseko ensured Matsatsantsa enter halftime on equal standing.

Maseko added a brace after the break before Nkululeko Hlongo pulled Sekhukhune level towards the end only for Caleb Avontuur to give SuperSport victory and third spot.

Stellenbosch FC continued to hold onto top spot after battling to a goalless draw on the road against Royal AM in the KwaZulu-Natal province.

The Maroons lead the way with just a single point ahead of the might of Orlando Pirates in position second, whilst AM languish well inside the top-half bracket.

After a heavy defeat by Stellenbosch FC last week, Chippa United were on the losing end again this time at the hands of TS Galaxy who ran out 1-0 winners to cement fourth spot.

The Chilli Boys lie just one spot behind the Rockets and two points adrift the Mpumalanga-based side, who saw a finish from Mike Sebelebele hand them the points.

Mamelodi Sundowns consolidated position seventh on the league standings on the back of a 1-0 victory over third-bottom Swallows FC on Sunday.

It is also a return to winning ways for the Brazilians following last week's loss to Kaizer Chiefs, while it is back-to-back losses for the Dube Birds.

Cape Town City and Golden Arrows shared the spoils in a gruelling goalless draw out at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

The draw leaves the Citizens in the bottom-half of the table as well as Abafana Besthende, with neither able to make inroads towards the top eight bracket.

Basement dwellers Marumo Gallants FC boosted their fight to escape the drop with a 1-0 victory over Baroka FC in the Limpopo derby.

A first half finish from Lunghile was all Bahlabane Ba Ntwa needed to get over the line and return on the winning path following last week's loss to Golden Arrows.

Maritzburg United made it back-to-back wins after seeing off AmaZulu 1-0 in the KwaZulu-Natal derby in Umlazi to move into the top eight.

Kamvalethu Cele's finish in the first half was all it took to separate the Team of Choice from their provincial rivals and in that collected the bragging rights.
