Cape Town City made a strong statement in the start to the season and brushed off a hapless Sekhukhune United 6-2, with Cee-Jay Bezuidenhout scoring a hat-trick.
The Citizens wasted no time to get stuck in as Bezuidenhout hit target before Shakeel April, Reece Peters and Sibulele Mguzulwa compounded matters for Babina Noko.
Goals for the latter outfit came through Njabulo Mndebele and Sifiso Mazibuko in either side of the half, as the Citizens cruised to an emphatic display.
AmaZulu 0-0 Orlando Pirates
Orlando Pirates were denied a winning start to the season in the DStv Diski Challenge after a goalless draw with AmaZulu at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.
A number of chances went the way of either side in the first half, but neither were able to profit and, in the end, settled for a share of the spoils.
Richards Bay FC 0-3 Mamelodi Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns made a blistering start to the campaign following a dominant 3-0 triumph over Richards Bay FC out in the KwaZulu-Natal province.
Masandawana were on the front-foot from the onset as a double from the returning Thulani Zandemela and a solitary finish from Onele Rulwana secured victory.
All the goals came in the first half, with the Natal Rich Boys unable to master a response and ultimately succumbed to the disappointing opening-day defeat.
Magesi FC 1-1 Stellenbosch FC
Reigning champions Stellenbosch FC failed to register a win on the day opening day but were kept at bay by the new boys Magesi FC.
The Maroons, who brushed off all and sundry last season to land a second title in three years, were denied a win despite Cheswyn Philander's strike as Magesi bounced back for a point.
Chippa United 2-0 Marumo Gallants FC
Chippa United, who encountered a disappointing term last time out, made a winning start to the campaign following a 2-0 victory over Marumo Gallants FC.
It's the first match for the returning Gallants, but sadly though battled to get out of first gear as the Chilli Boys proved too strong with new signing Aphelele Teto adding to the misery.
