Chiefs off the mark with five-star Diski win

AmaZulu 1-5 Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs kickstarted their DStv Diski Challenge campaign with an emphatic 5-1 victory over AmaZulu at the Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday.

Chiefs were ahead at the break through Siphesihle Tati, but Reneilwe Letsholonyane's boys came back in the second half and pulled level courtesy of Yanga Mjoli.

However, the Amakhosi started to take complete control and completely put the host to the sword with goals from Puso Dithejane, Wandile Duba, Donay Jansen and Omega Mdaka.

Richards Bay FC 0-2 Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates registered their first win of the season in the DStv Diski Challenge following a 2-0 victory over Richards Bay FC on Saturday.

Pirates were forced to a 20th minute after Siphamandla Mdunge battled to carry on and saw Ciniso Mazibuko come on the field of play.

The latter made an immediate impact and give the Sea Robbers the lead with a well-taken finish from good bit of play by Joseph Makhanya's men.

Pirates doubled their lead just before halftime through another smartly taken strike this time from Mehluleli Maphumulo, who in the process claimed his second goal of the season.

Golden Arrows 0-0 Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns remained winless after being to held to another stalemate this as Golden Arrows this time forced a goalless draw down at the Chatsworth Stadium.

Following an enterprising first half, the two teams struggled to get a breakthrough and thus saw matters conclude score-less.

The same sequence followed after the interval with the deadlock elusive on either side and left both Masandawana and Abafana Besthende with a point and draws from their opening two matches.

TS Galaxy 1-0 Cape Town Spurs

TS Galaxy claimed their first win in the new season of the Diski Challenge with a 1-0 victory over the newly-promoted Cape Town Spurs at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium.

With no goals in the first half, the Rockets turned out following the interval and grabbed the winner from Nkosikhona Radene and granted the Urban Warriors their first defeat of the season.

SuperSport United 0-1 Sekhukhune United

Reigning champions SuperSport United slumped to a disappointing 1-0 loss to Sekhukhune United who moved to the top of the table following two wins from two matches.

Babina Noko got past the newbies Polokwane City in their season opener last weekend while Matsatsantsa were held by their rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

A first half finish from Samkele Sihlali was all it took to see Babina Noko over the line and hand the holders their first loss of the season.

Polokwane City 0-2 Chippa United

New boys Polokwane City continued to find the going tough and lost yet again after Chippa United struck twice to secure a 2-0 win at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Both Rise and Shine and the Chilli Boys made losing starts to the season last weekend before latter outfit this time around showed sharpness and bagged the all-important maximum points.

Cape Town City 2-0 Stellenbosch FC

Cape Town City got back on the winning trail following a 2-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC in a much-anticipated provincial derby encounter.

It was City's second clash with opposition from the same province after their loss to Cape Town Spurs last weekend in their season-opener.

On the other hand, Stellies made a bright start to the campaign with a win over Chippa United but goals from Gabriel Amato and Rubein Bamana on this occasion saw them come off second best.

Royal AM 2-0 Moroka Swallows

Royal AM joined Sekhukhune United at the top of the Diski Challenge table with a 2-0 win over Moroka Swallows.

Thwihli Thwahla bagged a win in their opening clash of the season last weekend against Richards Bay FC in the KwaZulu-Natal derby, whereas the Dube Birds played to a draw against TS Galaxy.
