Orlando Pirates keep Diski title hopes alive

AmaZulu 0-1 Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates continued their pursuit towards the DStv Diski Challenge title with a 1-0 win over AmaZulu at the Mpumalanga Stadium on Saturday.

The Buccaneers relied on a penalty early in the first half from Sonwabo Khumalo to get over the line and get past Usuthu for the maximum points.

Pirates finished the match with ten players after substitute Siphamandla Ndunge picked his marching orders from the man in the middle following an indiscretion.

Stellenbosch FC 2-1 Chippa United

Stellenbosch FC maintain their slim chances to defend their crown after seeing off Chippa United 2-1 at the Idas Valley Sports Ground.

The result pushed the Maroons to fourth on the table and hot on the heels of the front-runners, while the Chilli Boys remain troubled at the bottom.

TS Galaxy 1-2 Marumo Gallants

Marumo Gallants FC continued to climb further up the table and in particular revive their campaign following a hard-fought 2-1 win over TS Galaxy.

It is a key victory for Bahlabane Ba Ntwa as the result keeps them hovering around the top-half bracket, while the Rockets slumped to the troubled bottom-three.

Golden Arrows 1-3 Richards Bay FC

Golden Arrows disappointingly went down 3-1 to rivals Richards Bay FC in the KwaZulu-Natal derby and thus failed to solidify their spot in the top eight.

A penalty from Mfundi Ngema put the Natal Rich Boys on their way before a brace from Lungelo Msweli inside the last ten minutes of the match made their situation comfortable.

The host didn't lose their heads and hinted a revival through Simphiwe Sithole, but it proved nothing more than a consolation as the visitors snatched the points.

Royal AM 0-0 Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs failed to return to winning ways after the Soweto derby defeat in the DStv Diski Challenge and stuttered to a goalless draw against Royal AM at the Mpumalanga Stadium on Sunday.

Both sides enjoyed moments at each other from all angles, but there weren't any joy in the final third and in that the deadlock proved hard to come as the match concluded goalless.

With the Amakhosi settled in the top-half, Thwihli Thwahla are down the bottom-half and seven points from a spot in the top eight.

Maritzburg United 2-1 Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns' three-match winning run ended after suffering a disappointing 2-1 defeat at the hands of Maritzburg United.

The Brazilians debuted ex-Varsity star Thulani Zandamela, but started the match on the back as Andiswa Sithole fired in on the half-hour mark.

Maritzburg made it two with halftime approaching when a scorcher of shot from 30-yards out by Asanda Buthelezi beat Sundowns goalkeeper Sizwe Ramabulane hands down.

The Tshwane side looked to stage a turnaround late in the second stanza through the self-same Zandamela, but it wasn't to be as United claimed victory.

Sekhukhune United 1-2 SuperSport United

SuperSport United returned to the top of the Diski Challenge standings courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Sekhukhune United at the Isak Steyl Stadium.

Matsatsantsa hit the opening on just three minutes courtesy of Jabu Matsio, but Babina Noko rallied back five minutes later and equalised through Asekho Tiwani.

The boys from the City of Tshwane turned out positively for the second stanza and grabbed the winner later on courtesy of Thabang Makhubo.

Cape Town City 5-1 Swallows FC

Cape Town City started their reign without coach Ian Taylor impressively after brushing Swallows FC aside 5-1 at the Malta Park Stadium.

During the week, City parted with Taylor but his exit didn't seem to affect the outfit as a brace from Luke Daniels, Keletso Sifumba, Jody Ah Shene and Lisakhanyo Mene got the job done over the Dube Birds.

This emphatic display elevates the Citizens to second spot on the table and just a point behind the leaders SuperSport United as the race for the title continues to hot up.
