Pirates keep in touch Diski Challenge leaders

Orlando Pirates 1-0 Royal AM

Orlando Pirates remained hot on the heels of the DStv Diski Challenge leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with a late 1-0 win over Royal AM at the Rand Stadium on Saturday.

Both teams battled immensely to get ahead in the first as well as second periods, but the Buccaneers got over the line when Sezulumusa Sibiya finished off a cutback from Mohau Nkota at the death.

Kaizer Chiefs 0-0 Richards Bay FC

Kaizer Chiefs failed to keep the pressure on the top-two after a frustrating goalless draw against a stubborn Richards Bay FC at the Dobsonville Stadium.

Chiefs were victorious last weekend against Golden Arrows, whilst the Natal Rich Boys were on the end a 2-0 loss at home to the title holders SuperSport United.

Chippa United 0-1 Golden Arrows

Chippa United suffered a consecutive defeat in the league following a 1-0 loss to Golden Arrows in a mid-table six-pointer.

An own-goal helped Abafana Besthende to get the all the points and redeem themselves from last weekend's 3-2 set-back against Kaizer Chiefs.

Cape Town Spurs 2-2 Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns overturned a two-goal halftime deficit to salvage a 2-2 draw against the new boys Cape Town Spurs and remained at the top of the DStv Diski Challenge table on Sunday.

Spurs were in cruise control and threatened an upset with a two-goal lead at the course of the halftime interval.

However, a renewed sense of energy by the Brazilians in the second stanza saw the Tshwane boys bounce back to claim a point from the jaws of defeat.

Polokwane City 0-2 Moroka Swallows

Moroka Swallows got their second win of the season as two second half goals resulted in a 2-0 victory over the bottom-placed Polokwane City.

Swallows held Stellenbosch FC to a 1-1 draw last weekend, while City came off second best against Cape Town Spurs in a battle of the promoted sides.

The Rise and Shine's dismal campaign continued after the Dube Birds found the net twice in the second period for the win and left the host winless at the foot of the standings.

SuperSport United 3-1 TS Galaxy

Reigning champions SuperSport United closed-in on the top-half through a dominant 3-1 victory over TS Galaxy at the TUT Stadium.

The title holders didn't need a lengthy period to make their presence felt as Siviwe Magidigidi opened the deadlock on nine minutes.

Danger man Shandre Campbell, who was on target against Richards Bay FC in their last match, made it two during the early stages and left Galaxy with a mountain to climb.

SuperSport added a third in the second half through Thabang Mahlangu, but the Rockets got a consolation as the host ended with maximum points.

Stellenbosch FC 2-1 Sekhukhune United

Sekhukhune United suffered their first defeat of the season after a 2-1 loss to a hard-running Stellenbosch FC at the Idas Valley Stadium.

The early initiative came from the visitors as Mokoena got in for his second goal in as many matches, but Stellies were level before halftime through former Chippa United's Thulani Mini.

Babina Noko were cut open again after the break when Roy-Keane Avontuur found the winner to give the Maroons maximum points.

Cape Town City 1-0 AmaZulu

Cape Town City got back to winning ways to regain fifth spot on the league table after seeing off AmaZulu 1-0 at the Malta Park Stadium.

The winner came from youngster Shakeel April, as Usuthu slump to a second straight loss to remain in the bottom-half and were crushed 3-0 by second-place Orlando Pirates last Sunday.
