The PSL and Multichoice partnered to launch the MDC reserve league in 2014 to give young players a chance to compete, which over the years has produced many quality players currently competing in the Absa Premiership and even in the national teams.
Vilakazi says the PSL led by Irvin Khoza has taken an initiative to develop the game in our country and urges SAFA to work hand in hand with the League to make sure we see more good rewards.
"I foresee PSL opening more opportunities in all levels to get players, because we are facing challenges in South African football where we see players that never played in South Africa because of the fact that our development structures are not taken seriously," he said.
"PSL has taken initiative to change that with Multichoice Diski and other programmes, maybe it's time SAFA can come in to work hand in hand with the PSL in sorting out our development."
Vilakazi also challenges Absa Premiership coaches to be brave and give young footballers a fair chance in top-flight football.
"We can't say a 21, 22 and 23-year-old is young while at Ajax Amsterdam you see at 19 years players are captaining the team in the UEFA Champions League. We should see young players competing in the PSL. Multichoice gives us a chance to develop. A trophy would be a cherry on top."
'Kanu' says Percy Tau is someone we should all be proud of whenever we talk about MDC because that's where he made a name for himself for the first time.
"Percy Tau is a revelation of this initiative. No one ever thought he would move from MDC to become a top player, even play overseas, so it helped him a lot," he added.
"I remember somewhere and somehow he was written off but he bounced back through MDC. It has produced so many talented players in the Absa Premiership."
