Sundowns cement top spot in Diski Challenge

Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 AmaZulu

Mamelodi Sundowns continued to maintain top spot in the DStv Diski Challenge through a hard-fought 2-1 win over AmaZulu on Saturday.

Sinethemba Badela's charges needed to come from two goals down in their last match against Cape Town Spurs to force a 2-2 draw, while Usuthu fell at the hands of Cape Town City.

TS Galaxy 0-2 Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates bagged a third successive win in the season following a 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy and to stay in second spot added to a point behind the leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

No goals followed in the first half before the Buccaneers got the breakthrough minutes in the second stanza through Mohau Nkota and left Jabu Mokone to put the icing on the cake at the death.

Golden Arrows 1-3 Stellenbosch FC

Stellenbosch FC secured a second win a row and denied Golden Arrows a string of victories after recording a 3-1 triumph to cement fifth spot on the table.

Shaakir Ahmed put the Maroons ahead on 20 minutes and Keanan Johannessen followed with a second for a two-goal lead at the close of the first half interval.

The Maroons didn't slow down after the resumption and bagged a third courtesy of Roy-Keane Avontuur, as Sbusiso Mtshali got the consolation in additional time for Abafana Besthende.

Moroka Swallows 1-2 Chippa United

Chippa United got back to winning ways following last weekend's disappointing set-back against Golden Arrows and edged Moroka Swallows 2-1 in Dobsonville.

The victory helped the Chilli Boys remain in the top-half, whilst the Dube Birds remain in mid-table with just two wins from ten matches played.

Richards Bay FC 5-3 Polokwane City

A five-goal blitz from Ntonelo Bomelo helped Richards Bay FC to a 5-3 victory over the rock-bottom as well as winless Polokwane City.

The deadlock came in the opening 13 minutes through Bomelo, who then nabbed a second on the half-hour mark to complete a first half brace.

Bomelo continued to wreak havoc on the newcomers as netted a further three strikes following the break and saw the Natal Rich Boys to victory as well as out of the bottom-two.

Royal AM 2-2 Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs maintained third spot in the DStv Diski Challenge after throwing away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Royal AM on Sunday.

Chiefs were ahead after managing to find the opener midway in the first half and added a second after break, but Royal staged a response and pulled one back.

The Amakhosi, though, were reduced to ten-men in the closing exchanges of the second period and Thwihli Thwahla used this to good effect and levelled at the death.

Cape Town Spurs 3-1 SuperSport United

Defending champions SuperSport United's disappoint season continued as a 3-1 loss to Cape Town Spurs left them in the mid-table position.

On the other hand, the victory steered the Urban Warriors to sixth-place as the host hit the ground running with three first half efforts before United issued a reply.

They were able to hold onto their lead for the rest of the match and secured all the points to after last weekend's 2-2 draw with the leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sekhukhune United 3-1 Cape Town City

Sekhukhune United cemented fourth place in the after brushing off Cape Town City 3-1 out there at the Isak Steyl Stadium.

Babina Noko got the job done courtesy of goals in the second half from Siyabulela Sihlali, Luckyboy Mokoena and Chabangu, as the Citizens could only get one on target.
