The prestigious MTV Africa Music Awards celebrate the shining achievements of Africans in the music and entertainment industry across the planet. The list of nominees were announced at last night’s glittering event at The Sands in Johannesburg.
A wide range of Africa’s finest talents have been nominated in 15 different categories including Best Male, Best Female, Song of the Year and Artist of the Year.
Additional categories recognising the achievements of Africans in fields not related to music have been added to the roster. These include Personality of the Year and Transform Today by Absolut, an award created in MAMA’s words, “To recognize and support young, emerging and original African creative talents who use their imagination to fuel social transformation and bring positive attention to the continent.”
The city of Durban will play host to the main event which will take place in Mzansi for the first time at the Durban International Convention Centre on the 7th of June and aired live at 21:00 CAT on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and MTV (DStv Channel 130).
