In another master class in ambush marketing, Beat by Dre have had the last laugh during the World Cup period with their gracious golden gift to the German national team.
For a brand that wasn’t even a World Cup sponsor, Beats by Dre received plenty marketing mileage (much to the envy of many of the brands that dolled out millions of Rands in sponsorship money to FIFA), that included a compelling TVC featuring world football’s finest players and celebrities.
But this wasn’t the end of it. Players were banned from wearing Beats by Dre headphones at the tournament after complaints by rivals and World Cup sponsors Sony. The preceding headline-grabbing uproar arguably tipped the scales in Dre’s favour from a PR perspective.
Apart from being gifted with headphones, the German team will be equally pleased to have Supermodel Naomi Campbell delivering a thank you message to the World Champions.
