It’s been three weeks since the end of the World Cup with the majority of fans from around the globe having made their way back to their respective countries. The same however cannot be said for a group of fans from Argentina who are reportedly uninterested in returning home.
Argentinians need only to produce a government coded ID to cross the border without a visa or passport. This cordial act of diplomacy is beginning to show cracks which is a worrying sign for Brazilian authorities who are concerned about the group consisting mainly of young, unemployed men.
Argentina is currently grappling with painfully slow economic growth with unemployment rates currently standing at one of the highest in the region.
It has been reported that Argentinian Embassy officials have offered to repatriate destitute fans who either lack the resources or documentation to return home, however many turned down the helping hand as they hope to start a new life in Brazil.
