"Lamontville Golden Arrows accepts coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi's resignation," a brief statement from the club reads.

The exit comes as somewhat of a surprise with Arrows enjoying a good run of form, sitting in second place in the DStv Premiership.

Abafana Bes'thende has collected three wins from five league matches – a record only bettered by log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have six wins from six.

The Durban-based outfit are also the second-highest-scoring team in the league so far, with nine goals – just three less than Sundowns, who have scored 13 times having played a game more.

Last season, Vilakazi and co-head coach Mabhuti Khanyeza guided the team to a ninth-place finish in the league, the highest position occupied by a team based in KwaZulu-Natal.
