Malesela raises his hand for Arrows job

Former Baroka FC coach Dan Malesela has raised his hand to succeed Steve Komphela at Lamontville Golden Arrows after the latter left to take up a post at Mamelodi Sundowns.

Malesela says he is ready to lead Abafana Bes'thende should the club consider him.

The ex-Orlando Pirates captain believes his style of ball possession football aligns well with that of Arrows.

"Maybe my manager has put in my CV for the Arrows job, I'm not sure," Malesela says, in conversation with KickOff.

"It would be nice if I could go there, but the decision doesn't lie with me. It depends on the owner or the club. We will wait and see.

"I like the club's rich history, a history I believe needs to be revived. They should be playing like the real Abafana Bes'thende. They do have players that can play, they should be contesting in the CAF competitions.

"It's been long since they won a trophy, so there's a need for them to have at least one trophy. This thing of being in and around the Top Eight should stop now.

"There should be progress, it must show on the pitch that they've been in South African football for years," he continues.

Malesela says a team with such a history cannot be happy to stay in the PSL and should be contesting for trophies.

"Arrows can easily revive that missing thing about KwaZulu-Natal football. Arrows have produced some big coaches and also some very big players.

"I like the fact that they have patience for coaches, they give them time, until as a coach you see for yourself that it's not working.

"The patience they have is the one that is required in football."
