Vilakazi hails Golden Arrows' 'top class' display

Golden Arrows co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi praised his players for a "top class" performance after holding Mamelodi Sundowns to a 1-1 draw.

Arrows gave Sundowns a scare after Ryan Moon broke the deadlock midway through the first stanza with a well executed first-time shot.

It looked as if Abafana Bes'thende were going to get a famous win over the Brazilians but goalkeeper Sifiso Mlungwana fumbled a header by Sipho Mbule with 17 minutes remaining to preserve the Champions' unbeaten run under Rulani Mokwena.

Vilakazi says his players followed what they spoke about in the team talk precisely and it was unfortunate that Mlungwana made an "honest mistake".

"It was a great performance I must say. I think everything we spoke about with the players in our team talk we sticked to the plan," Vilakazi told SuperSport TV.

"Obviously second-half we knew very well that they will be desperate and come at us because we were still leading 1-0. But I think defensively we were strong, it was just an honest mistake from Sifiso but he had a great performance.

"But I think I must just commend my players in terms of the hard work and the work rate today, it was top class."

With ambitions to finish in the top eight, Vilakazi added that a point against Sundowns will go a long way and their performance gives him hope that the team is getting somewhere.

"It's a point that will add, when we go to our next game if we win, it will make a huge difference. So it was very important for us to come out of here with three points or worse result a draw, as it happened.

"But I'm happy with a point and we'll build on that, obviously four games unbeaten, we just need to be consistent in terms of winning games, so we will work on that. Some of the things cannot be rectified overnight but this team is coming, slowly but surely."
