Zwane hails Sekgota as Chiefs' 'star player'

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has hailed exciting winger Kgaogelo Sekgota as the club's "star player" following his impressive start to the season.

Sekgota was again a menace on the wing on Wednesday night providing the assist for the opener in the 2-1 win over Swallows following a season in which he has broken into the Bafana Bafana squad.

The 25-year-old has already had praise from former Portugal youth international Zequinha who played with him at Vitoria Setubal.

"Ever since we started this season, he is our star player to be quite honest," says Zwane when asked about the dreadlocked winger.

"When you look at the number of chances that we have created.

"Even the chances that we created, he missed.

"He has always been in the good areas at the right time but unfortunately the execution was not right.

"Looking at him, he has been doing very well.

"Obviously, we want to help other players as well to be at the same level as him.

"He is never going to be perfect because he is going to make mistakes here and there because football is a game of mistakes but so far so good for him.

"I'm happy for him because we had to put him on a program where we push and pump him like you are saying because we realized that we needed a player like him to last in a game.

"We couldn't use him as an impact player all the time so he has responded positively and as you can see now, he can last in the game.

"Whenever he is on the ball anything can happen, but we need to help him now improve his decision-making in the final third entry.

"He is going to be deadly as time goes on and the good thing is that he is no longer crossing the ball just like that but targets areas.

"We need to balance our play now going forward because we also need another player that can take that responsibility off his shoulders on the right.

"When you look back at the style of Kaizer Chiefs we used to dominate with wingers and players that were and in one-v-one would skin you and bring a cross.

"So, when you look at Sekgota that identity is coming back and that is what we are trying to do," says Zwane.
