Du Preez reveals lofty Chiefs target

Kaizer Chiefs forward Ashley Du Preez has set himself an ambitious target for the season as he looks to get back to his goal scoring best.

Du Preez joined Kaizer Chiefs from Stellenbosch FC at the start of the season in one of the most high-profile deals of the transfer window and is the club's joint-leading goalscorer with two goals in six appearances across all competitions thus far, while he has also recorded an assist to his name.

His goal scoring tally this term includes a strike in the Amakhosi's 3-0 DStv Premiership win over Maritzburg United last month as well as an all-important goal against his former employers in the club's penalty shootout triumph over Stellies in the recent MTN 8 quarter-final encounter.

Despite delivering a respectable return, Du Preez is not yet satisfied with his contribution and has set himself an ambitious target of trying to score in every match in order to repay the faith shown in him by the club's fanatical supporters.

"As far as my contribution to the team is concerned, it's to score in every match at least, and to help the team win games," he told the club's website. "The love of the supporters is amazing and it's wonderful to play in front of a big crowd every game. They give you an extra boost to work harder in matches. I really enjoy it."

Du Preez's early-season form saw him earn an international call-up for South Africa's recent friendlies against Sierra Leone and Botswana, where he featured as a substitute in a 4-0 win over the former before making his full debut in Bafana Bafana's 1-0 win over the latter.

The 25-year-old will have an opportunity to build on that momentum this weekend when Chiefs play host to AmaZulu in the first-leg of their MTN8 semi-final clash.

"Playing AmaZulu is nothing new," he added. "We've played them in the league and this is a cup game. I think we can go out there and play to get the win and have the first-leg under the belt. It's not going to be easy but we'll go out and do our best."
