BREAKING: Chiefs, Johnson part ways after horror spell

In news that was not completely unexpected, Kaizer Chiefs and Cavin Johnson have gone their separate ways, as confirmed by the club on Monday.

When the 65-year-old joined the Soweto giants as Head of Academy some 10 months ago, he was understandably elated at the opportunity handed to him by chairman Kaizer Motaung.

"I am happy to join Kaizer Chiefs as Head of Youth and the scouting department. For me, joining Amakhosi means joining an institution. I am also happy to bring along all my experience that I have gained over the past 20-25 years of working with youth.

"Hopefully, in my time at Kaizer Chiefs, we will be able to unearth and develop the next Doctor Khumalos, Ace Khuses, Jabu Pules, Tinashe Nengomashas. We are aiming to get to the level where Kaizer Chiefs develop a lot of the players they need, and local players that are able to play in this 'heavy' jersey that is called Kaizer Chiefs.

"It is a privilege and an honour, and I would like to thank the Chairman, as well as the Board of Directors, including Bobby Motaung, Kaizer Jr., Jessica and Kemiso for allowing me to join such a big organisation."

However, he found himself thrust into the thick of senior team matters after the Molefi Ntseki project failed just four months in.

Things then went from bad to worse as Amakhosi suffered a massive dip in form that saw them sit at the bottom of the standings for the second round of the season.

With it having been confirmed by the club that there would be a new technical structure come next season, all eyes have been on Johnson's situation, in respect of whether he would be going back to his previous job.

"The departure is part of the restructuring process that the Club is undertaking.

"We wish to thank Mr Johnson for his contribution to Kaizer Chiefs and wish him well in the future."
