Johnson: Where Chiefs need to improve

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson has explained where the team needs to improve after suffering a third straight defeat across all competitions.

Chiefs suffered their fifth defeat of the league season as a brace from Knox Mutizwa cancelled out Sifiso Hlanti's first-half header.

Johnson says they created better chances and are a lot better with their fluidity and passing movements going forward.

"I think I've got to give a lot of credit to the boys, I thought they played well under the conditions that we come out of, the conditions of the pitch, which I think were a little bit, not bumpy but soggy in some places," Johnson told SuperSport TV.

"But you can't blame that, both teams were on there. The game, I thought we had a lot of clear one-on-ones in the first-half, I thought we should've scored some of them, we scored one after going behind.

"That means we were actually chasing the game but then again in the second-half we lost the ball, I think cheaply in their half, they had a counter-attack and they scored and they defended for their lives," he said.

"But I've seen a better Chiefs than I've seen (today), so I think we're gonna work on it and hopefully we'll get it better. But the fluidity, the passing, the holding going forward is much better and we'll see what happens in the next game," he said.

The former SuperSport United head coach was asked which areas Chiefs would need to improve on and said that their current bad patch has to do with their mental side.

"I think we have to be a lot calmer, because of the results we've been getting in the last three, four, five games, we all seem to be a lot more anxious, especially when we're close to the opponents' goals," he said.

"That creates a lot of tension within yourself and that mental calmness we have to work on that I think."

Johnson carried and answered a question on what is his mandate at the club after he replaced Molefi Ntseki as caretaker coach.

"Play the Chiefs way and the results will come, there's no expectations, it's just for us to prepare the team, I think we've got a very good team, I think we have a team that can compete," he said.

"But it's a team, like most teams, when you go through a bad patch you've got to mentally come out of that and that's what we're now at the moment," he added.
