Nabi sees red as Chiefs last line options cut down

Nasreddine Nabi has had his say on the red card issued to goalkeeper Brandon Petersen during Kaizer Chiefs' drama-filled 3-1 win over Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals.

Albeit under controversial circumstances, Chiefs progressed to the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup after getting past Stellenbosch at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

Goals from Inacio Miguel, Pule Mmodi and Mfundo Vilakazi were enough to seal the dramatic victory after Andre de Jong's late equaliser had given the Maroons hope of a comeback.

Among the many surprising decisions on the day was that of back-up goalkeeper Petersen receiving his marching orders in the 77th minute following consultations between the match officials.

Speaking to journalists after the match, Nabi said he was baffled by the decision.

"About the red card, I don't know really what happened. Because Brandon was beside us, he didn't say anything. He didn't complain to the referee or anything," the Tunisian-Belgian revealed.

"He only spoke to his teammates and was warming up because we thought the keeper (Bruce Bvuma) was injured."

This leaves Petersen unavailable for selection for the side's next two encounters, against Cape Town City midweek and an away trip to Richards Bay FC on Sunday.
