Chiefs star to elbow Miguel out?

Resolute defender Given Msimango has responded to questions over his reduced playing time as Kaizer Chiefs prepare for their next Betway Premiership match.

Msimango is in line to start for Chiefs when they host Richards Bay FC on Wednesday.

He will be standing in for Inacio Miguel, who is suspended for the encounter after collecting a red card against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout semi-finals.

Such has been the 27-year-old's predicament so far this season, having fallen down the pecking order following the Angolan-Portuguese's arrival and that of Rushwin Dortley during off-season.

Nevertheless, the 2023/24 PSL Defender of the Season nominee remains optimistic and is raring to go come Wednesday.

"For me, it's just to stay the professional that I am, to work hard, and to stay fit. Eat well and sleep well," Msimango responded when asked about how he's dealing with the limited game-time.

"[I have to] understand that in football, there are times and seasons where there are setbacks on a personal level. I understand that season and that phase for myself as well.

"So, I just have to stay fit, and stay ready. When the opportunity comes, I will do my best."

Meanwhile, the Glamour Boys' defensive structure so far this term has raised more questions than answers having conceded seven goals in five matches.

For context, they conceded just twice in their opening five matches last season with Msimango and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe the preferred centre-back pairing.

The league fixture against the Natal Rich Boys at New Peter Mokaba Stadium kicks off at 15:00.
