Chiefs haunted by youngster who 'refused to be ball boy'

Puso Dithejane, who was released by Kaizer Chiefs last year, has seemingly come back to haunt the club after his name made it onto the score sheet in TS Galaxy's recent pre-season friendly against the Soweto giants.

Chiefs' pre-season woes continued as goals from Dithejane, Sphiwe Mahlangu and Thokozani Sibanyoni saw them fall to a 3-0 defeat against The Rockets in a friendly played at FNB Stadium.

For Dithejane, the match, albeit a friendly, would have carried extra significance as he came face-to-face with his former employers, having come through the Kaizer Chiefs development structures.

He was released by the club under controversial circumstances after allegedly refusing to be a ball boy having played a match for the reserves earlier on the same day.

Dithejane, alongside Omega Mdaka, found himself as a free agent when they were both released by the Soweto giants.

Mdaka has since found a new home in Stellenbosch FC, where he scored his first professional goal last week, while Dithejane has already established himself as a key figure for the Rockets.

The versatile midfielder made 16 senior appearances last season and his exploits in the Mpumalanga International Cup have reportedly attracted the interest of German outfit Augsburg.

Meanwhile, Amakhosi's loss to Galaxy is their second heavy defeat in pre-season after they were handed a 4-0 drubbing by Tanzania champions Young Africans in July, continuing what has been a less-than-impressive start to their pre-season plans.

They play their first competitive match of the season against Marumo Gallants on September 14.
