Loan call for Chiefs forward

Christian Saile Basomboli has been encouraged to push for a loan move in January for the sake of his career instead of finding comfort in just being at Kaizer Chiefs.

Basomboli survived the chopping board at the beginning of the season and having made little contribution this term has a red light flashing on his head.

The Congolese forward has only played 100 minutes spread over four appearances and is without a goal.

He will have spent two years at Chiefs next month but will do so with only seven goals to his name if he doesn't score again for the rest of the year.

Making his situation delicate is that he is taking up a foreign space which the club will need in the New Year if their recruitment targets up front come from outside South Africa.

The 25-year-old has given Amakhosi commitment, drive, and pace but lacks precision in the box.

"I think loaning him is a good option for him to regain his confidence and deliver," says retired fellow Congolese Liswa Nduti, who has been following Basomboli with interest at Chiefs.

Nduti was in the Manning Rangers squad which won the inaugural PSL title in the 1996/97 season.

"He needs a club where he will get more minutes and be able to play his normal football.

"We need to understand that Chiefs is also not going through the best of times, so this affects the players, especially one like Christian.

"I think he is under pressure because he must prove himself with every opportunity that he gets.

"The boy can play, but the problem is that he is not getting enough chances to show what he can do and is trying too much to impress when he gets to play.

"If truth is to be told, the challenge is that as a foreign striker at Chiefs, you must always be scoring goals to avoid being blamed.

"Let him go out on loan to get himself to regain his confidence," says Nduti.
