'Most of them don't deserve to be there' - Chiefs squad slammed

Kaizer Chiefs legend Jabu Mahlangu has accused Kaizer Chiefs players of lacking hunger to 'fight for the badge' in a scathing attack following a shock Nedbank Cup exit in the last 32 against Milford.

Amakhosi were shockingly dumped out of the Nedbank Cup by Motsepe Foundation Championship side Milford on Sunday evening at FNB Stadium in a penalty shootout after the game had ahead in a goalless stalemate.

Mahlangu took to social media to voice his frustration and urged the players to pull up their socks.

"I watched the Chiefs and Milford game. Obviously, Chiefs dominated the game and controlled most of the game they had three or four three clear chances and scored and won the game," Mahlangu said.

"But it seems Chiefs combinations are not working. I expected that during the AFCON break the gents and coaches and the technical team would get a chance to at least try and fix whatever problems that they have in the team.

"But by the look of things, honestly speaking, there is no difference.

"Yes they want to win but the hunger is not there. That fighting spirit fighting for the badge, it's not there. I know the gents don't go into a match to lose but I question their commitment a lot.

"You can change coaches you can bring whatever, but if the players don't respond positively, or the way Chiefs players are doing now, they are not responding well to what is required.

"The players of Kaizer Chiefs, most of them don't deserve to play for Chiefs. They don't know what it takes to play for Kaizer Chiefs. Most of them, I'm sure are still surprised that 'hey, I'm playing for Chiefs.'

"With all due respect, I don't like to criticise players but when I criticise, it must be constructive. Not to break their spirit but we have to say, no gents, there is a lot of work to do.

"Changing coaches every season will never help. The players must also take responsibility and I feel there are not giving Kaizer Chiefs a return on the investment the club has made in signing them.

"It's like they are just happy to wear a Chiefs jersey and have a huge social media following. Obviously, if you play for Chiefs, Sundowns and Pirates. Gents, this is your job, You are professional, you are full-time."

The defeat most means Chiefs are out of every knockout competition for the 23/24 season.
