Dolly: What I'd change if I was a Chiefs coach

After nine seasons of not winning a trophy, former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Keagan Dolly, in hindsight, has offered insight on where the club could improve internally to awaken the sleeping giant.

There have been a few factors pointed out as major reasons why Chiefs have not been winning trophies, one of them being a high turnover of players bought and released every season.

Every winning team has a core squad and Amakhosi have not had that benefit for a number of years.

Another hot topic around the Glamour Boys not clicking into gear is the mystery around why players who were known to be good players at their former teams suddenly cannot perform at the club.

Dolly, who left during the off-season, from experience, feels that players at the Soweto giants are not protected enough from outside influences.

"I'd probably look after the players a bit more, protect them from social media and what's been said about them when things are not working out," Dolly said in an interview on 947's MSW, when asked what he would change if he were to coach the team.

"I'd probably, firstly, make them safe at the club, not add more pressure. I would make the environment, where the players themselves feel that they are home and they are working together. Ensure that they are here for a reason and not remind them of the past. What big of an institution [you are].

"I feel like a lot of players that come to Kaizer Chiefs, they come being outstanding players and I don't feel like a player can be a bad player overnight, you understand? So, I wouldn't put pressure on players that joined the club. Bring them slowly into it and not just throw them in at the deep end."

Chiefs did not qualify for the MTN8, a first trophy that would have been on offer under head coach Nasreddine Nabi.
