Double Turkish delight for Chiefs as Nabi chapter begins

Kaizer Chiefs have been handed a double boost at their pre-season training camp in Turkey in terms of personnel availability within the squad.

Amakhosi jetted off to Istanbul, Turkey on Thursday and have begun their pre-season camp.

Not all Chiefs players made the trip as some are nursing injuries, among them Tebogo Potsane, George Matlou, Dillan Solomons and Mduduzi Mdantsane, with all of them set to continue their rehabilitation process on South African shores.

The Soweto giants have received two major boosts in terms of player availability.

Ashley Du Preez, who was initially part of the group that was left behind in Johannesburg, has also flown to Turkey and was part of the side's second training session on Monday.

The speedster is currently among Chiefs' most expensive players having been signed from Stellenbosch FC for a reported fee just north of R10 million - the highest Amakhosi have forked out in recent years – with Sibongiseni Mthethwa's fee also in the same region.

Du Preez has also been the most productive of the team's attackers, scoring 15 goals and providing seven assists in his 59 appearances across two seasons.

If Chiefs are to mount a successful resurrection this season, new coach Nasreddine Nabi will need a player like that in peak condition.

Additionally, new signing Bongani Sam has also dived straight into the thick of things and was a part of the group that flew to Turkey on Thursday last week, confirming the Glamour Boys' readiness to complete the deal.

Chiefs' swiftness in securing a replacement for S'fiso Hlanti, whose contract was not renewed, is a positive sign for their supporters, with more arrivals expected to arrive following Nabi's assessment of the squad.
