Kaizer Chiefs' winning run in the DStv Premiership came to an end after going down 2-1 to Chippa United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday evening.
Defender Siyabonga Ngezana retained his place ahead of Zitha Kwinika following his return from suspension with Brandon Peterson in goal and Itumeleng Khune out in the stands.
The first shot in anger following a quiet opening came from the Chilli Boys after Ronaldo Maarman picked up a loose ball around the box and worked Peterson to a save through a low shot.
Chiefs began to come alive after a relatively slow start and nearly had the lead off a snap shot in the box by Keagan Dolly from Kgaogelo Sekgota's cutback on the right of the area.
Dolly launched another threat seven minutes to halftime as he charged in from the near side of the area out on the left and rattled the side-netting with a powerful left-footed shot.
Chiefs made the breakthrough a minute before the interval after Ngezana towered over Roscoe Pietersen in the area and headed in Sekgota's pin-point corner-kick.
A double change from Chippa ahead of the break saw Ayabulela Konqobe Magqwaka in for Maarman before Etoisa Ighodaro slotted in the park for Elmo Kambindu.
The Chilli Boys levelled over six minutes after the halftime break as Siphelele Luthuli pounced on a loose ball from the body of Sifiso Hlanti in the area and drilled in the bottom-corner.
Chiefs added fresh faces up front near the final 30 minutes in Khama Billiat for Sekgota and Siyethemba Sithebe in for Ashley Du Preez before Bonfils Caleb Bimenyimana had a rasping strike saved.
The changes energised the Amakhosi and with seven minutes to go Dolly collected Billiat's back-heel pass and fired across the far side of the net from a tight angle.
Chippa though grabbed the lead in the final two minutes after a floating free-kick towards the area bounced off Edmilson Dove and in off the far post.
The Amakhosi looked for the equaliser in the dying minutes, but Bimenyimana failed to find the target from six yards and saw the visitors to victory which ended the Soweto giants' seven-match unbeaten run.
