Khan: How Chiefs can thrive under Johnson

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Farouk Khan has explained why he believes interim head coach Cavin Johnson can succeed at the helm of the Soweto giants.

Following a disastrous start to the season that saw Amakhosi collect just eleven points from their opening nine league games and crashing out of two cup competitions, the club announced the departure of then-head coach Molefi Ntseki.

Johnson, who had joined the club as head of youth development a month prior, would be taking over the helm on an interim basis. Since taking over, the former Platinum Stars coach has registered two wins and two defeats from four matches.

While the Chiefs hierarchy is understood to be closing on a permanent coach, Khan believes Johnson has what it takes to continue leading the Soweto giants.

"Fortunately I've worked with Johnson before, I know what type of coach he is. He is a coach that likes to play," Khan told KickOff.

"Chiefs have to get him a good technical team and I think they can really have a good season. Gone are the days of just having a standard technical team, you have to invest in specialists these days.

Chiefs made as many as nine signings ahead of the new season, that was an addition to the nine that joined at the start of last season, making the make up of the team a relatively new one.

"I think Chiefs have the players to suit that style, they have players who can play with the ball on their feet but they need the time to gell. They've signed a lot of new players."

Next for Chiefs is a DStv Premiership clash against Polokwane City to be played on Saturday.
