Message to Chiefs: 'Teams will sell if price is right'

Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Neil Tovey has weighed in on the club's transfer dealings after the controversy that has followed the Asanele Velebayi pursuit.

Local clubs stand accused of having an agenda against Amakhosi and not wanting to sell their players to the Soweto giants, a club regarded by many as a bastion of South African football.

On the other side, Chiefs are accused of not being willing to meet clubs' asking price and demands, something that has seen them miss out on several targets.

Despite adding the likes of Gaston Sirino, Bongani Sam, and Fiacre Ntwari, on paper the Glamour Boys squad does not appear as strong as those of rivals Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Nasreddine Nabi's troop look quite thin up front, with Wandile Duba, Ranga Chivaviro, Christian Saile, Ashley Du Preez and Mduduzi Shabalala forming their strike force.

Tovey says clubs will always be willing to sell their top players if the money is right.

"Because I have been away, I haven't known who they've dealt with to give an honest opinion, and I can only see a couple of matches into the season," Tovey says, speaking to KickOff.

"I know they have signed Gaston Sirino, and I think he can do good work for them because they do need a playmaker to take a playmaker role on and play off a striker, you know.

"I can't comment on if teams are not willing to work with Chiefs, but what I know is teams will always sell if the price is right.

"There won't be any other complications. If the price is right, they will sell. I think Chiefs need to bolster their frontline.

"I think they need to go to Africa and look for a big striker so that the quick boy, Ashley Du Preez, could work off him, you know."
