Makua: I don't give them the benefit of the doubt

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Frank 'Disco' Makua has warned the club's supporters against raising their hopes a little bit too much in their season opener.

The Glamour Boys are up against Dan Malesela's Marumo Gallants FC at Toyota Free State Stadium on Saturday at 17:30.

Both teams are a closed book to each other and will be looking for a good start in the 2024/25 Premiership season.

"To be honest, I don't give them the benefit of the doubt. Kaizer Chiefs, Marumo Gallants might be problematic," Makua tells KickOff.

"But I think the way they are Chiefs, Nabi is trying to make them play as a team, we just need to afford him enough time, to be honest; he's got good plans, let's support and encourage him.

"It might not be this year, but he's bringing in change. He must just be careful of using too many youngsters. The pressure will make them crack.

"But I believe we will be happy tomorrow, I think it's a perfect opportunity for the boys to repay their Bloemfontein-based supporters for disappointing them against Yanga in the pre-season friendly," he added.

"All they need to do is to get a win tomorrow and not worry much about a good performance. I think the fans must accept any win tomorrow, what's important is a good start, good football will follow later.

"Yes, for now, I'm not entirely happy with our squad, especially up front, we need somebody who will convert our chances.

"We've got guys who can create chances, all we need now is somebody who will just finish up our chances, not a striker who is obsessed with dribbling.

"We've got pacey players like Ashley Du Preez, all we need now is somebody who is going to finish their moves.

"I believe it's possible to get results tomorrow, only if we can play our cards right."
